Literature Text

When Jesse was little, he would have nightmares and run, crying to his mother. She would hold him in her arms and sing to him. She would rock him back and forth and say “Mommy’s here. It’s okay.”

When Jesse reached adolescence, he struggled with school and stole daily. He got arrested and his grades slipped to straight D’s. Jesse snapped and yelled at his mother, taking everything out on her. He proceeded to cry and apologize. His mother hugged him, sang to him, and said, “I will love you no matter what you do, Jesse. It’s okay. Mommy’s here.”

When Jesse began paying his own bills, had his own house and car, and was living on his own, he got stressed out with finances. He would visit his mom and she would sing to him and hug him and say, “It’s okay, Jesse. Things will get easier. I’m here for you.”

When she was on her death bed, Jesse held her hand and cried. He sang to her and hugged her and said, “It’s okay mom, I’m here. I love you.”

Her love stayed with him even when she was no longer with him.
